SDSR successful in obtaining water grant (added 28/05/06)

SDSR has been announced as one of a massive 1750 community groups will share in $61 million in funding to undertake water saving projects across Australia, under the Australian Government’s Community Water Grants programme.

SDSR's project was to save water by installing tanks to collect and distribute rainwater from building roofs at the Southern Downs Steam Railway. The collected water will be used to operate a steam locomotive and clean carriages. These changes will save 550,000 litres of water each year.

SDSR has been successful in obtaining almost $30,000 to complete this project. It is anticipated that the work will commence in June 2006.
