SDSR guest speaker at Wallangarra Station luncheon
(added 23/07/06)

SDSR Treasurer Bob Bingham delivered a presentation to members of the New England Railway Incorporated (NERI), the mayor of Stanthorpe Shire, and local residents at a lunch held at the Wallangarra Station Refreshment rooms.

The topic of the day was the benefits of preserving, and reactivating, the region's
rail heritage. Bob Bingham covered the history of Southern Downs Steam
Railway, future plans, and how these will benefit the community.

After an informative presentation, the opportunity was made for those attending to ask questions from the representatives of SDSR. It was a great opportunity for the two groups to continue to find common ground in the preservation of Queensland and NSW rail heritage.

Funds raised from the lunch went toward the Tenterfield /Jennings branch of NERI, to
support their ongoing yard maintenance and trike restoration work.
The Tenterfield/ Jennings Branch of NERI, with their sister groups in Glen
Innes and Armidale, have been working for years to ensure the preservation,
and ultimately re-opening, of the Great Northern Line through northern NSW.
